Graduation ceremonies for River Parishes Community College were held Tuesday night, May 18 for the school’s graduates. Graduates received their diplomas, and were treated to an inspirational, motivational speech by EATEL CEO Robert Burgess.
In all, 29 students graduated from RPCC in the spring 2010 ceremony. Two graduates, Ashton Guitreau of Prairieville and Melissa Perez of New Orleans, each earned two degrees. Four graduates earned Dean’s Honors when they finished. Those graduates were Brook Carpenter of St. Amant, Jessica Everett of St. Amant, Donald Gibson of Sorrento, and Elizabeth Hill of Gonzales.
“I want to congratulate all of the students who graduated this semester,” said Chancellor Joe Ben Welch. “Each of them has earned their diploma with a lot of hard work and effort. Whether they go on to finish a 4-year degree, or enter the workforce, I’m confident they will do well because of the time spent here at RPCC.”
EATEL CEO Robert Burgess shared with the graduates some life lessons he has learned. He encouraged graduates to make the best of each day, and to use their RPCC educations to the fullest.
He started at EATEL in 2005. Burgess formerly worked as the president of Gulf Coast Wireless, a Baton Rouge-based Sprint affiliate. In his role as EATEL president, Burgess oversees the day-to-day operations of the 75 year-old company, including financial, marketing, engineering and customer service.
EATEL is the only privately-owned company in south Louisiana to provide phone, Internet and television services to Ascension and lower Livingston residents over an all-fiber communications network that offers a broad array of digital programming, including 58 high- definition channels and hundreds of on-demand titles. EATEL marks its 75th anniversary as a service provider and leader in Ascension Parish this year.
River Parishes Community College is an open admissions, SACS-accredited, two-year college offering a wide range of day, evening, and online courses. Classes taken at RPCC are transferable to any college or university in the state. RPCC offers associate degree programs in General Science, Liberal Arts, Science in Teaching and General Studies, with concentrations including Environmental Science, General Business, Criminal Justice, and Computer Science.
