RPCC to Deliver Adult Education Programming

River Parishes Community College (RPCC) will offer daytime and night-time adult education programming in Ascension Parish.  The adult education programming will focus on preparation for the high school Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED) test and on job readiness.

RPCC will offer adult education in Sorrento and Donaldsonville.  RPCC will offer classes in Sorrento at the RPCC-Technical Education Center (RPCC-TEC) at 9697 Airline Highway and at the Donaldsonville Opportunity Center at 1201 Maginnis Street.

RPCC is working with the Ascension Parish School Board (APSB) to transition the Adult Education Program as seamlessly as possible.  This administrative change is the result of Louisiana Senate Bill 297 that was passed during the 2010 regular session.  Senate Bill 297 transferred adult education responsibilities from the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to the Louisiana Community and Technical College System to better facilitate the transition from adult education programming to two-year postsecondary institutions.

RPCC will accept applications for adult education and schedule placement tests for two weeks from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., beginning August 22 and ending September 2.  During those two weeks, RPCC will collect applications and schedule placement tests at RPCC-TEC in Sorrento on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at the Donaldsonville Opportunity Center in Donaldsonville on Thursdays and Fridays.

New student orientation and classes in Sorrento begin on Tuesday, September 6, and in Donaldsonville on Thursday, September 8.

Currently, RPCC and APSB staff members are responding to program questions and any other concerns prospective applicants may have.  For more information, contact the Adult Education Coordinator at the River Parishes Community College-Technical Education Campus at (225) 675-5397, extension 213 or email at GED@rpcc.edu.  Additional adult education information can be found at www.lctcs.edu.

GED testing will continue to be administered by the Ascension Parish School Board.  APSB has staff that will register/enroll those interested in taking the GED tests on Wednesdays from 1:30-6:00pm at the RPCC-TEC campus.  Please call the APSB for more information or go to www.apsb.org.
