Campus Tour

The River Parishes Community College (RPCC) Campus on Airline Highway hosted some inquisitive visitors on Friday, February 24.  75 students from Dutchtown High Scool, East Ascension High School and St. Amant High School were on hand to see for themselves exactly what RPCC has to offer.  Predominantly seniors, these students toured the technical campus and met with individual teachers and students from these programs.

This group of students included Alex Templet and Blake St. Pierre, both of whom are seniors at St. Amant High School.

Their high school is not the only thing they share in common.  Both of them had relatives in the process technology field who exposed them to process technology and piqued their interest.  Alex’s dad and Blake’s cousin both work as process technicians.

Another area of interest is that both students enjoy the hands-on nature of the work.

“I like working with my hands,” said Blake.  Alex also echoed this sentiment.

Although Alex was initially interested in process technology, her main interest switched to RPCC’s Industrial Instrumentation Technology program, which is commonly referred to as instrumentation.

“When I came here, I was interested in the process technology and instrumentation programs,” said Alex.  “After taking the tour, I think I’m more interested in the instrumentation.”
