GENERAL POLICY

Catastrophic Events and Continuity of Operations

River Parishes Community College employs specific policies and procedures regarding catastrophic events and program discountenances in order to limit the length of time that students are displaced. It is imperative that we provide a contingency plan for unforeseen events to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our students.

Continuity of Operations

In the event of a catastrophic event, River Parishes Community College has prepared a disaster recovery plan that guides College administrators and technical staff in the recovery of computing and network facilities. This plan presents an orderly course of action for restoring critical computing capability to the RPCC campus within 14 days, sets criteria for making the decision to recover at a cold site or repair the affected site, describes an organizational structure for carrying out the plan, and identifies the equipment, floor plan, procedures, and other items necessary for the recovery.

Program Discontinuances

River Parishes Community College addresses program discontinuances on a case-by-case basis due to the specific needs of each degree or program path. This allows our institution to better serve the needs of our individual students. The students of the programs are notified in person and then counseled on completing their programs by their advisors. The faculty review the current curriculum with the students and provide them with the option of finishing their degree or program path as long as they do not break service to the college and remain in their designated degree or program path. They are also given the opportunity to move to a similar but different degree or program path. In accordance with 602.24(c) of federal requirements for catastrophic events, the teach-out plan is submitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges prior to its implementation.
