For Immediate Release from RPCC
Gonzales, LA – On Thursday, Oct. 6, the United States Senator for Louisiana, Bill Cassidy visited River Parishes Community College (RPCC) to tour the Gonzales campus, and meet with students, and he got to know more about the opportunities RPCC provides.
Senator Cassidy got to learn about RPCC’s non-credit classes, the Early College Option Program, and the Adult Education Program. The tour concluded with an overview of the training capabilities of the Process Equipment Training Plant (PET).
“Education is key to the success of the individual, our state, and country. RPCC is the beginning for many in this road to success,” Senator Cassidy said.
Senator Cassidy grew up in Baton Rouge where he attended LSU for his undergraduate degree and medical school. He helped fund the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic and created a private-public partnership to vaccinate children against Hepatitis B at no cost to the schools or parents in the Greater Baton Rouge area. After Hurricane Katrina, he also gathered a group of volunteers to convert an abandoned K-Mart building into an emergency health care facility.
It wasn’t until 2006 that he was elected to the Louisiana State Senate, and in 2008 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a representative for Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District. In 2014, Senator Cassidy was elected to the U.S. Senate. He has a wife, and three children, and has completed many successful projects following his reelection in 2020.
RPCC enjoyed Senator Cassidy’s visit. In attendance for this tour, were members from the RPCC administration, the Student Government Association, faculty, and student ambassadors.
“I was honored to welcome Senator Cassidy to RPCC. Senator Cassidy's commitment to education and the people of Louisiana is something we can all be proud of,” said RPCC Interim Chancellor Quintin Taylor. “From the first time I met him ten years ago, education and workforce development have been a priority. I appreciated him engaging with our students and learning more about the exciting future of RPCC and how our college is leading the way in preparing students for great careers in tried-and-true economic drivers, as well as new and emerging sectors."
