Gonzales, LA — This Thanksgiving, the River Parishes Community College (RPCC) Foundation launched its inaugural “Hams for Fams” initiative, spreading kindness and providing holiday cheer to students in need. Thanks to the generosity of Lamendola’s Supermarket, which donated 25 hams, the initiative was a resounding success. A total of 28 hams were distributed as part of the event.
On Friday, November 22, at the Gonzales Campus, students gathered to receive holiday hams after being nominated by their peers or self-nominating through an online form. RPCC staff came together to distribute the hams and connect firsthand with students, creating an atmosphere of warmth and support during the holiday season.
“The RPCC Foundation is incredibly grateful to Lamendola’s Supermarket for their generous donation, which made this event possible,” said Tarie Roberson, RPCC Foundation Executive Director. “The ‘Hams for Fams’ initiative is about more than just giving food; it’s about fostering a sense of community and ensuring our students feel supported during the holidays.”
The initiative underscores RPCC’s commitment to student well-being, emphasizing the importance of compassion and support beyond the classroom.
Participants expressed heartfelt gratitude for the program and the difference it makes during the holiday season. Events like “Hams for Fams” exemplify RPCC’s mission to uplift and empower its students in meaningful ways.
